Out this week and in store is the long-awaited new book by Guy Delisle. Jerusalem: Chronicles From The Holy City (Drawn & Quarterly) continues the series of travelogues from cities notorious for their hidden sides (see Burma Chronicles, Shenzhen and Pyongyang) thanks to the time he's spent living and working in these politically complex areas with his family. This insider/outsider perspective separates him from the immerse, rigorously researched work of Joe Sacco and instead he, rather charmingly comes across as a tourist who happens to have found himself behind the curtain so to speak.
Due to a change in work arrangements Jerusalem is to be Delisle's last travelogue so it's nice to see that it's actually his most ambitious clocking in at a weighty 336 pages and for the first time employing a sparse use of colour. It's already receiving a raft of great reviews and won the Best Comic Album prize at the 2012 International Comics Festival in Angouleme, France.
